The Impact of Social Media on Online Class and Student

Social media is something you can’t be without in today’s era and for students it has become a necessity in the past years for their study. There are 98% of college-aged students are on social media so this might be understandable how much students are indulged and involved in this. With the time of COVID-19, online classes became popular, and educational institutions completely switched the traditional classes to online. Students on the other hand took that as an opportunity and it was one, and honestly.

If I were in their place as a student I would even pay someone to take my online class for me because social media is tempting, and when these services come in contact with the knowledge of students they would eventually take the help from it.

In this blog, we are going to find out the negative and positive impacts of social media on online classes.

Negative and positive impacts of social media on online education:

Social media is a vast place where you can get tons of information that can benefit you in your studies you can research topics or subjects on Google, YouTube, Twitter, and many more. But if there are positives then there are also negatives of social media and both are following.

Positive impacts:

  • Online learning:

Due to the easily accessible approach of social media students would be able to learn in a better way, they can also be motivated to learn as they like watching videos on YouTube and other platforms, and they can also access e-books and other educational websites from where they can learn and gain knowledge.

  • Improves academic performance:

Students’ access to a wider perspective of information and knowledge, improves their academic performance because when they are assigned projects they can easily access greater information and would be able to provide great work.

  • Engagement:

Nowadays teachers and students use social media platforms to engage in educational activities. Instructors would be able to make the classes more engaging by using tools like Twitter and Instagram where they can take student’s quizzes and polls which will make it interactive.

  • Professional networking:

You can make professional connections through social media like you can make your profile on LinkedIn and getting to know the professional circle, you will be able to get job opportunities and other informative things to look into, and it will also help you in building your career.

Negative impacts:

  • Addiction and distraction:

Social media is a distraction for students when they study online they have their devices in their hands and nobody is in charge of them every time they have an online class so they get distracted by social media apps and start to scroll the reels and videos etc.

They become addicted to it and it impacts their educational performance because they won’t give time to their studies and will be sticking to their devices binging on social media apps.

  • Isolation:

The students become isolated, they don’t want to interact with anyone or anything. In online classes it is all about interaction, you need to be present with your whole mind and pay attention to the instructor because there is a lack of practical interaction so it needs extra focus and determination, social media can distract this and students wouldn’t like to interact with the class and get their whole attention on the entertainment or games on the platforms.

  • Misinformation:

There is so much diversity on social media in terms of information, students may find information from Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, or any other app that is not correct or they can get information from the perspective of a bias that would not give the right and factual information.

  • Privacy concerns:

Students might go on websites and buy books or to get information or to research they access a website, they would have to give their personal information like name, email, phone number, or even credentials that might get them in trouble because their information is on the web and it is full of hackers that can hack into your system with the information and invade your privacy.

There are many credible websites like domyonlineclass.us.com where you can easily access information and get help but your information is safe. Always read the terms and conditions when you visit a site don’t fall for the wrong ones and immediately trust and accept their request.

Final take:

Students should use social media because it has tons of benefits where you get to research better and have knowledge about complex concepts that would help you in your academics. In online classes, you don’t tend to pay as much attention as in the traditional classroom so social media apps can help you in that a lot. But with the benefits, students can get the negative impacts also, they can distort their health as well and their focus would get shifted from being creative to being isolated and under the social media app shell.
